Let -- 21. This addition of the things take a whole lot different than most I think.

We have three hours filled with three different topics today that we don't -- to work on her router to go. Less noise I admit reluctantly. I went through my prunes. Documentary. Drum roll of film comedy your name that movie. Hillary sure is the big own easy. Am I guess I expected watered seeing so many times. So many documentaries. Seeing so many books have coverage so many photographic essay is. Kind of blending and future other with economists same notes. That came with five years of viewing listening in brief. Well listen I was totally different. Never seen one like this to me is -- business soon the first hour it it took two jury saw. What are remembered in my head of the Cold War. And all the reasons I don't trust them. And let me again emphasize don't think about call -- In saying that your picking on the people who work for the -- of people worked for the core I don't know who you -- worker bees. I'm sure you're trying your best Bob -- so the last night you very good people the true leaders. In your organization. Is -- hmm not to be trusted liars. And got many more injured his -- can use on the year. But don't -- children and and wait it out what -- duty when most extraordinary things are actually took a very complicated subject. Lease a slight bit of humor into it would -- government. At least a lot. Of technical work. A lot. Of our visuals and meet -- understand but primarily. Walked out of there saying. Oh my goodness. If we live and low lying area. We have or indeed drinker and that to me is why I came back and probation after we're doing three hours or -- salaries. -- Because it's the first thing I've seen that puts her altogether and the irony is that the carrying a number of others. Look at -- and have a question mark concerning the core. I look at it and I have a declarative. And an exclamation. Points. For the life of me I don't understand. How we trust this -- these people to do anything about all that. -- hadn't done. I've got to -- actually I've got -- sure appear with me. I area of -- she got my good friend would get ugly -- normal -- little circuit. One thing we're talking about of the era for the life of me after five years. A lot of the documentaries were very good what they did kind of just all mesh together -- sell more music -- message and similar visuals. Why did you do with the way how would you do with them.

Well. It in my mind was focused by a conversation I had with. And nationally known anchor person about three years ago -- Three plus years ago. In 2006. That would before -- Who. I asked. Why is it that even at that point that the viewers of your broadcast don't know why the national broadcast. Why New Orleans flooded because all about that time the reports from Berkeley and from LSU had already been issued. And the answer was. We just feel that the emotional stories are more compelling for our audience. And I think the sameness view you have seen and this is not to denigrate anybody else's work. This material is tough. To tackle -- get your hands around to get your mind around to be able to communicated to other people and a clear and and hopefully compelling way. Fortunately they said do you in the last hour you were my -- my school I was listening to you when you had. Bob -- and and I've -- pioneered -- other people on. And and the guys at the times Picayune who were reporting on the story is the drip drip drip accumulated with me and fortunately I have a really good memory. So all stuff women and stayed in and I and as well as I've got ready to do the film I decided. That. The one thing that hasn't been done was to polish altogether in a way to tell the American people. -- here's here's the way I've I've been learning to put it. Because of the concentration on emotion because of the concentration on. The original idea of the story which was all look at big hurricane common hits Mississippi -- must've been what it can wants to have. Because of the logistics. That said. That they'd superdome and the convention senator work near an offer -- I -- but saint Bernard parish was. And nothing that any network confined. Because of all this the story became a fraction of what it really wants and we. New Orleans had lost control of the narrative -- her own near destruction. And and my idea was to try to regain that controlled by telling the real story the factual story in an attempt to try to wrangle look at them the material and not. Market the emotion now it turns out to my. Sort of delighted surprise. That the three people at the center of the story Bobbie I rendered in the whistle blower from the corps of engineers Marie -- you know. Are wonderful people that I found when we went to film -- I really liked. And their stories are are compelling human stories and so there is an emotional component to a movie but it wasn't. That was my first goal but first goal was to tell a story as cleanly as clearly as completely as non trivial way. And as as compellingly as possible.

During a break come right back -- will talk with doctor woody -- President would -- full performance incorporated and move -- perfection is. I got all my friends appear all the print could've held my hand all these years. When we come to the wetland and I got I got a big question for all -- a doctor would you actually you know my my true hero who were alerted me to this in 1970. Doctor appreciate you're joining.

They're buying dollar brigadier is always a slight. Yet out I would wanna thank carry forward a magnificent. Job. I think he's done this station and service. In telling this story the way did.

Well I don't I don't know grim miss Joe was -- there Matta got up and stormed out or do you do for sure appear -- and has not been able to see. The movie this season thanks for coming good to do it here and of course -- is -- now. An -- and I've already talked about this. When what I said to. I have little opening at 2 o'clock in them that in and it explained how -- embryo was. And I don't trust some soaring in our interest damn gladly. I don't trust wall. That they have done period in -- story. -- not show me an organization. That I had to sit there and -- a Libor men here in Bob be. Go back in tune with the attorney general. You cannot believe general organization the attorney general was getting ready to drugs are determined big crime scene. Q did we invent your -- their team. Soon people -- pool. To to protect these guys against the core. And then narrated through and no hyperbole. Document after document after document after -- Lives. Up used Haitian. Criminal activity. Now doctor you don't Carlton you've told -- you to. This really is a movie about a question. You know we should all. Think about what's happened -- we really intrusive -- Tillman were humble. How do you trust an organization like yes. Get -- no matter how good the ball to look at -- that I held the -- look if I have been convinced. To come back in tone to Lower Ninth Ward. New Orleans East this radio station. One you did a program come all back come on back among back. Do we really trust. This lying quorum of the organization. I'm serious you've got to help me here doctor gagged earlier on a north sound like a crazy man but I gotta tell yeah. I truly think that have for every New Orleans. Critters seen Harry's priests. We wouldn't have half the people back that we have in particular in the low lying here. Where --

Well I've I agree with what you said and you know we've albeit in a trick box. Of trying not good to be true discouraging. As we've lived through it. Terrible ordeal. You know we we would try it gives them -- to. All of us so we're here. But is -- truth of the matter is that. Our institutions. -- good. You know and all of colonel asked body has not been asking. I felt this same question over and over again oh god why won't they live -- You know this issue we had a message. And say they would good point the good news Boller is. During this week when everyone is memorialized. Katrina and the events. That lots of people. The world now now knows what we tried to tell everybody. Understands that we're losing now wetlands that we -- Problems look Olympic. And that our coastal area is terribly deteriorating. And it's gonna be hard to maintain it. Everybody knows that -- food on the streets college people interviewed know it. We know it will -- no it. Triggers so it you know it was good we got the message across we've we've put a stake in the audience. In -- cannot continue. To. -- In in the kinds of pre warned that have -- in this country. And that we will robot on these these governmental agencies to take normal life but they all. End and we can't rely on them to make these important -- we've got to figure out a better way to do it are are. Civilization as we know it in the United States of America is -- And.

I agree with woody. And Garland me I guess it knew one thing I'd like to have. Collaborate on isn't just my opinion. The this system we -- we did not have a system prior to Hurricane Katrina we had a series of projects around veteran New Orleans. While they were supposed to complement each other they did not then we all of a -- is -- this thing started right after Hurricane Betsy in forty years learn later that doggone thing still wasn't complete. The difference today I would suggest to us is that if you got a future and it trust but verify we gotta go out there in check everything. That's being done to them sorry of them were just pull it up they're -- we've gotten to the difference today is. There's a new sheriff in town this new watchdogs the so flood protection authorities is not the Olympic sports we used to have -- we just political appointees. One of the best the best thing happen after Katrina to me was a unity that this region felt it's not. New Orleans Jefferson Saint Bernard saint Tammany if you came back after the storm he really had the wanna be here. And -- knows that I I would say the best of the best came back. And they thank goodness they didn't in in suffered through it but. This region to me is stronger than it's ever been we've got more potential in wherever -- back however we are still very much at risk. I personally believe that the flood protection system we have today is head and shoulders over what it was prior to Hurricane Katrina but it is not nearly enough. There's 1100 stuff as it sounds good in I think there are certain areas of the city that we will see the metro area. They will see that probably you were talking about earlier -- older sections that didn't flood a little higher. Elevation pieces of turf those for the long -- of the more resilience. That that have that the strongest potential for the long term but the key to everything for the future is. Here we all learn that levies no matter how high the dog and AMR -- now we're gonna have levees that are thirty feet tall. We have eleven with a flood wall it's going to be almost thirty feet tall losing -- navigation canal that lived some closure structure in New Orleans East is tremendous. And that is a monumental achievement in my opinion that's something that plugging the final. An MR geo and Indies and New Orleans funnel at that flooded the Ninth Ward and been hacked my most of the police here are also an.

I agree with all that in fact I had -- moral leaders of the very group -- talking about -- engineers -- now ahead applied they're not Levy boards and immoral but -- There broker from -- so we're better off than we ever have been were monitoring them and everything else. And that's kind of were my brain is gone okay Emeril actually a little bit -- and when I talk to what do you say you -- When the Clinton gore is a thirty foot -- gonna protect us against the golf club build enough or all those things but it's still. A broken oral -- in web site at home watching the whistleblower. The lady. Lived with the with the pedigree a mile long and the corps of engineers. She was to -- little girl. And now she is very happy and long here in stressed out -- whatever and she said don't homes. Don't. Work he wasn't there was no qualifier. There was no why don't they they partially were -- feet don't more.

Which are really -- yeah yeah I think and that they're temporary it's exactly -- And -- how can you -- until there's a difference between temporary and not and a non functional yeah it is. They don't work. They won't you know but I'm not trying to who's to say that this thing is perfect what I'm saying is that in my opinion. We're heck of blood better off today I got I museum but my point is we're saying that because we believe. That's the very ones who we have killed us. Or doing -- I know watching them. But I happen to remember Olivia and Mississippi I mean and save an art com there reporting incorrectly and and they lied about it twice each and into Bob -- who's now been rendered almost speechless from the stress she's been through. -- or being -- and who got fired. The whistle blower who has gone through -- stress. In this and we have a little lesbian memory when it just happened to be put in big cement blocks in -- rewards from whatever. I I couldn't watch. That document relies so -- we're -- category. Four hurricane on these -- If that came our way with the temporary -- why you -- temporarily in the first place. Why do you say to everybody but -- don't -- telecommute now Karl I do my I don't with the completely -- all you have to do core. I have to put them temporarily you have to say. We can't afford it. Or we don't know how to build it all we don't have the time. Put to put in the temporary pumps and tell us what good to go look at these are temporary and we're gonna get the good -- whistle -- us. They lie. Where you're totally open to the hurricanes. I mean how little we the city.

This system has got a long way ago. And in the pumps are a big one that's gotta be corrected for the long term. Frankly guys at the biggest concern I've -- is not the hurricane protection system it's a dog -- coast I mean we've we've invested this country's invested fourteen billion dollars. In levees and flood walls and we're gonna have levees and flood walls around this place they're gonna look like Stonehenge long after we're gonna. Because it's gonna be in the Gulf of Mexico and nor sure is going to be Amanda -- but I may -- even Covington and Gonzales by that time. The biggest problem I think we face is that. God bless everybody in the country that has helped to sound so much today to admit taxpayers and everybody that Batman volunteers. But when you get down to it we as far as the coast with plug -- more GO -- set. I mean every week which I just came from a meeting with with senator Graham talking about the stuff from them too -- for the horizon mess and and potential funding thank goodness that might come out of that for coastal but the biggest problem we've got my opinion is. The US government works in galactic time in glacial time we don't have that we do not have that luxury around here any more the longer we take. We lose more and more communities and new war -- end up literally like a Key West of an -- guys can.

Let me tell you quote break come really renewed but hopefully I can -- forty include Carlton and diary we're coming right back.

24/7. 360. This station to count -- taught in sports leader. 1053 WWL have well. And WW well done.

Talking about hair. -- you remove.

Relation to big and easy good Gary graves owned by the government solves social activities -- short period drug and urine or appreciate your calling it. I'm -- molecular vision then didn't sleep much landslide are gonna tell you elegant so infuriated watch in this to get up and gore in the balcony in and things like a caged animal. I thought I heard it all out for a new at all Baldwin has sort. Look connect criminal activity and and incompetency. In the summer. And I would like you to repeat if you would do in your piece in this movie that'll listen to legislative understood you correctly. There's a whole bunch of projects that the core is. Funded for an -- just not implementing that I misunderstand that.

And let me get. -- quarterback -- you were talking about earlier you know they've seen each situation. And that the core of engineers try to the only contractor into its -- try to. Transaction or any other country to go galloping out collapsed. I -- scenario when you go back to hire that same contractor. To -- to rebuild your house that's gonna be. We judge that the federal government that's exactly what's happening. I agree with Carlton and that they admit that there are chain protection system we have today. Stronger than it was pre Katrina is the perfect milk should be the goal line. Meaning that it isn't finished product right you know absolutely. I don't think the one in one and here are sort of appropriate. It's important to keep in mind that they had before Katrina that protection just -- supposed to be providing a 300 or more strict. Due -- for just exactly right now. Now largely the result of that but what -- coastal Louisiana with the Gulf of Mexico that much closer. You're -- to god this is only a 100 you're just. So going to question superior to push you out there what we talked about in the movie the documentary. There is to pick others injured at seventy men and chat but a number of very tight. Bench -- try to launch the corps of engineers had to expedite the restoration projects noting that relationship between the the encroaching Gulf of Mexico. Can that be increased vulnerability doors the other coast security dep. They they directed the court did expedite restoration effort seventy restoration ever so it. We believe there is currently total about nine billion dollars worth of work how. They put it. Language at NATO -- dictionary the other corps of engineers shall do this by this date. And about fifteen of those deadlines get out and that not a single one of them has been.

just what you're saying there there there were a couple of things. And here I mean it's so believable I have all my heroes Garrett and then doctor gagged earlier and ruined and and coral tune. And Harry appeared telling me calling things are better than they've ever been before and we're much more ready than we ever were and I sat there last night. And I sit. Crazy scenario. The category four hurricane going to -- right now comes our way. The apocalypse. -- war. It goes through the -- to flood the city again and what are we here. Well you know the court was they built a really good -- all over New Orleans these and some of those levees -- thirty put you know those held and by the way we're all human. Here that it -- just in the end in the meantime. We'd sit com. And everybody come on back or right built to hold a built her own children raise investment 30000 dollars extra to get it done. Well if it floods again where they held my store -- must go -- muck fire department approves it make any difference at a bridge it's just the feeling than when I watched it. I said. If you're telling people get on the plane who were missing in the engine. Shouldn't say our mission and an injury shouldn't we say yes so the very yeah literally flying in the play games -- criminals.

we should say we're still vulnerable. I salute you gotta do you gotta gotta be forthright and tell going to be completely forthright. I just -- jump in here but what Carl was saying it before the news about coastal restoration all Richard Campanella says in the film that we've got a ten to twenty year window is the scientific consensus of how much how we have to really tackle this before. They rise in sea level makes -- you know a pace is our efforts to restore. That is one of the reasons why I was so upset that President Obama came here Sunday night. And had an opportunity to say we have to make do that in the BP oil spill brought this to our attention. The aftermath of the flooding brought this to our attention we've had two warning calls now. That the nation should be eating about the loss of anchor of wetlands every hour. That our. Army protection in this area. Tonight. We're gonna start a different path to protection and I'm gonna you know I'm gonna leave. Blood on the floor -- half due to get serious resources committed to this as of now if you look in his 2011 budget. The total amount of money he's he's at. Asking for for -- you know like you maybe wanna ask for more than you're gonna get to moment when he's asking for for coastal restoration from the feds for us. Is 33 million dollars.

change we've we've got money missing. Let's say that brings us let's say that it's everywhere it's completed.

Category we'll have water. We have no wetlands. That holds up to -- hurricane you kidding me. You can you've got to give me some evidence here that that that's true I cannot imagine any sooner. That tried to save -- soul and I gotta tell you -- the point where I got up. And I had to go to the balcony and paste because I was so angry. I've kind of been lulled into. Believing what I hero of -- room and ladies are much better then. We got quite a wall over there at the him or GO and that. Corps is doing a good job and we're not looked. Every category four hurricane corn up the East Coast. And I heard you so and actually would know won't flyers don't polyps. That are there right now don't work. Hop. -- couldn't even put words together I was showing for.

Well they don't work as they were intended to be utilized they were intended to be used to protect this city of New Orleans from. A serious storm that sent.

If we didn't hit. God forbid that category four -- those folks have been able to do.

What we do know is that you cannot say with any engineering certainty at all that they would. They would have thought that they can't function in fact you can take just the opposite. What you do know now with what is wrong. From -- they're that there is such a massive amount that this kind of efficiency between now do you know and we can actually talk about. Think UK you can say categorically I think that it's the people of New Orleans are in serious danger. And satellite safety issue. There's no way to -- police say that the country can function at all. And -- that -- that this thing indeed the design issues that are wrong here are some are so great.

Mean we're doing we know I had I had to do every took us all through the litany of you would there when everybody else did you were riding a memos saying these things don't work and it's aren't. Does any part here at the core of sleep you off the record. Why they wouldn't just come out and simply don't have the money or we're trying to build them. Or the pumps are ready and in year old injured just susceptible to -- we do will is there ever that question. Offered in the an answer to.

Not not so much no. I think. The that's. That's something that is internal. Two. The policymakers. As to why they make the decisions that they can make to go forward as they do go forward. That that was ever shared with me quite the opposite actually I was pretty much placated told that will take care of things. And in it it -- as I did it it while I was in the field actually it was very clear to me things were not being taken care of quite the opposite -- And then threw for three to four year investigatory process it became very very clear to me. I I was very naive when I went into the process thinking that surely people are gonna understand gravity of this issue. And do something about it to correct it. Quite the opposite in fact that -- it turned out to be true of what was going to happen in this process and we are where we are. Thank goodness. We are will be all right now with the findings that we do ask. Unfortunately it doesn't leave the city of new Orleans city safer. But it does leave us with better answers and more accountability. And it also leaves. The sale of having citizens stripped them of their right to informed consent chipped away somehow that's -- considering its setting to make. Only people they're safe when you can actually not.

There -- that's the whole reason for the show one quick question before of a lynch ago. I live in. Ninth Ward. Live in New Orleans East lived -- Leo literally do. I've been told Bolivian better than they've -- of them would get someone thirty feeble little wall of China over New Orleans East. I should be comfortable and safe and right.

Well there are many things there there are far far better than they work prior to Katrina however a hurricane protection system is only as good. As it's weakest link. And the weekly we have here -- the hydraulic -- subpoenaed goes Altria alpha canals. Austria -- now I believe represented. The kind of weak link that would bring about the exact same catastrophic cockpit after that we witness already.

I know that you were -- second place and occupation. And lifestyle and probably why he. I ordered to tell us the truth and I -- I just wanna thank -- would never have the guts to do what you've done but what Harry put on the big screen -- a slate to. You're definitely one of our heroines and we we can never thank you enough.

Why thank you very much -- it's it was is and it it wasn't -- used to be in honor. -- been able to serve down in Norman and can be there.
