All right a more -- finally given up. Every time we've done so we're thrilled to. I've got the same answer for in this so goal. Red state so called ultra conservative so called capital there's very. So called supply and demand straight. Committed. -- -- of large corporations. Make too much money than -- enters always an unequivocal -- yes. Drew athletes make too much money unequivocal goal yes. The questions always for approve okay and how much is too much and who's gonna determine how we get there. But -- finally. Understand. Them. That you just think anybody that's paid a lot of money is paid too much of what we're gonna try to do the sour. Talked to a couple of experts in CO OK it's all too much. How do we get to where it's not too much. One of things have brought -- about -- we talked a lot plans sour about -- sure and Alabama. Mel being in the your own national championship -- in the BC has game this what's gonna happen. -- BCS national title for -- issue. We're trigger provision in coach miles contract requiring his compensation. To be no less than the highest seller in the public institutions when we have to within the FCC plus a thousand dollars. Because she -- highest seller -- to Alabama's Nick Saban who's number one number two ranked team is also going to be in the abuse -- -- This could make this season's BCS championship worth at least 2.4. Million. And possibly six and a half million. Over the remaining secure resume bug coach -- deal. Close I have two million dollars in post season incentive bonuses. He would get for the 2011 campaign plugs. 200000 dollars in bonuses for depending on the team it's academic reform -- bring -- an academic. Performance. And our first sex were blown whose lives we have with the -- professor Michael McCann. Exports slow professor of sports law institute director of Vermont almost group professor thank you very much for joining such. Sure they're okay what are your thoughts you're a sports -- professor. You know is this could be out of whack here and if so. What what's what's convinced repair it what's what's okay. I think in terms of what college coaches are making it's certainly. -- knew -- when they end up being I escaped individual that is cool and it is there's something. There's something honest about it -- -- that it shows that the power college sports is that -- sports really ruled today and then institution and many communities. A but it also shows that. That they're concerned about especially when players are. Limited in compensation choose to room board books tuition and alike. But they're not able to profit big big -- profit up their image they can't. Get a salary while replying and yet -- coaches are making it back if they get in trouble and they get a free tattoo like Terrelle Pryor out. State noted there can be punishment for forgetting any kind of free -- and get their coaches are making. It simple million dollars in the year based on the work of those players are doing on the field. There's something off putting about it on the other and a question look any legally do about it. And there are a harder question because there there's antitrust law that would. Be relevant if all the colleges got together and said let's limit coach's salaries to 250000 dollar a year. Somebody's gonna bring an antitrust case saying that an antitrust violation because you competing schools joining here and the to make he labor market less competitive now stable so that's crazy but that's -- -- -- -- -- -- so -- hearted really do anything about it. Then that's sounds like it would be impossible to do anything about it -- of the loan tranche. Right and I further have to be an exemption through antitrust law. That allows such a rule to be put in place and -- exemption -- antitrust law but there's none for for coaches like her college coach's salaries. And unskilled wondered to what you think the -- of the about it happening. Zero -- excellent thought. And it before going to further for those that are that are not aware what the professor Joseph was relieved to -- a couple of details. We talked about the abuse the BCS. Championship game. Combine that with -- such a sugar ball. In this city which of course we're gonna do this year estimated half billion dollars for new -- Again each FCC's screw will receive about ten million dollars. Approaching says flight would say much else could be all the ripped a six point five million dollars in bonuses. Administrators. Received bonuses but players. Nothing. Right now the NCAA is studying. Ways news. To make sure the scholarships. Actually called cover the cost of education much lesser food. Now student athletes are paid reported 500 dollars short of actual college expenses. So players who scholarships to only cover the costs of the college education. Jewelry. Millions tens of millions of dollars and they expect simply had to be happy you're participating. In Jerusalem and help. I -- guaranteed nothing they risk their future earnings. Quality of life and shoots. All for this mythical. Championship. Bad bad bill players don't benefit from other than being able sued the trophy or have a good time. Professor do you think bad part will ever change. I think there's a chance and we're seeing some litigation out there involving. Current and former players arguing that they should be getting more -- and Ed O'Bannon. Former UCL a basketball players saying why am I in video games when I'm forty years old and no longer student athlete why am I not getting money for that line and not getting money. When my image is used. Now that I'm no longer a student athlete other other players says Sam Keller being on. As pat said that they shouldn't be in video games even while other students that sure the player's name of our views and video games. But their own town of their race their size there. Position their number all match up to one individual person. It would seem like they're identity is being taken away without getting compensation or we could see maybe some traction we can also see changes in rules in terms of in give players being able to do licensing deals or being able to promote. Products right now that -- against the rules such that not allow -- perhaps we'll see some changes on upfront I'm not short probably unlikely in the near future but. There's a possibility. That 11 issue though with paying players is how will we pay players wouldn't stargate all the money. With a backup park and the -- kidnapping and also there's title -- as a as a very important issue words it's a federal law that requires. Gender equity and sports beat the system has set up so that. Only men's basketball and football players get paid they'll likely be entitled mine violations but it goes along that so. It's a hard issue to deal at the -- right now players of course Serbs are not getting anything beyond. Tuition room board and some other things you don't want small change it could be effective would be -- the financial aid office decide how much the players should get. As opposed to other parts beat the university they're maybe players who really need the money in a little bit more. And even more watchers same old talk about that when we come back and then we'll get back on the coaches think. But it every eat there -- unpopular showed that -- donors saying I cannot believe these kids don't get the benefit pad the present embellish her on the show and I said. You teach economics that your school yes. And I said. Do you teach them about supply and demand you know the demand is gigantic. 100000 people in the stadium. The demand is very read very very small. Teaching supply and demand is a good thing of capitalism and natural we base. Capitalism -- yes we do why don't you apply in sports well that's a good question. That's what his response was when we come back. What's been told me will talk about Scarlett it is it's too complicated can't do it you can't raise questions got power questioned got political question got class cautions -- region contract -- -- bridge in question got contracts economics is just what you do complicated. And always saying. I'm old enough that I remember something about the glitzy Bobby he bear. Our main announcer here who -- saints quarterback. Whose rock. And broke the NFL all and they told -- couldn't be done because. Well you know it's there is some reason there and there's some power or in there's. Class and there's contracts and there's economics. And they gotta do in common right -- we're thinking about the -- also -- They're afraid to. -- -- -- -- -- -- You see euros. About mortgage companies. Today we've been talking about the fact that college football players have not been here at least not plead not even cover their expenses. And then that's all within scholarship and also. We're talking about less miles a coach Saban billiard to coach who's number one and through teams in the nation had to -- the BCS national championship game. Coach miles. Could make -- already makes about four million couldn't words make at least 2.4 million merely an urban and possibly -- six and a half million. The remaining six years of his contract plus 500000 dollars and post season incentive bonuses. You get because of the 2011. Record and he could get another 200000 dollar bonus depending on the team to academic performance. So we're asking the courts are professor Michael -- Can. Sports law protesters sports loans shoot director of Vermont almost group proposed before the break we're talking about. Kids is school in the practiced. The demand for their supplies. He eye hand coordination speed strength. Itself -- makes tens of hundreds of millions of dollars through school all of the country. But -- -- don't even get enough to in their scholarships that cover all of their daily expenses. One of the things you mentioned. One ball is it that that would keep. Anything from really changing because every sport gender wise have to be a provided for what was civil. But I don't rise -- -- federal law that the senators and happens college sports I have to treat. Men and women athletes -- please people can't exactly people buy it and they're different -- -- satisfying the law. But it's only male players are paid particularly large sums of money it may be hard to argue that that's compatible I don't mind. So right now let's take alleged -- with the money they they have that comes in -- football. Is equally. Distributed among build the sports. Clearly not -- sure that it did all he has -- benefits that other teams aren't. What what has to be the case though that overall male athletes have to be treated about roughly equal. As female athletes and LSU. And they're different ways in which are going about showing. That the school that compliance with title nine and differences -- football in -- he's staying at the -- rich Carlton. And other teams particularly humility and spending you know and much cheaper or not motels or something along those lines so. Don't have to be cautious of that then and I think you know there's there's certainly reason to think that. Played its star players are treated better than others. But not to an accent that would -- I don't mind. So I would assume you don't see much chance of -- changing. In that doesn't change. Then employer if we're here we're looking strictly at supplying the men will ever get. What should be doomed him in that capitalistic. Four. Because the NFL at an age -- miniature cars -- here for years out of high school if your eligible for the NFL draft so even a player. That's good enough to go to the NFL after his freshman year -- and nor are there other leads to the player and go to. We'll let him manner that would work while you know regional politics and I am not and and so you have to be at least under the the -- here and there are typically. What they want. In addition it's CF felt the people -- isn't really. Agreed option the average salary there is about it I think some on the ball park fifty to 60000 dollars a year to a lot of money but. -- your pitcher putting your life on the line on every plane hitting it's such such a great bargains so. Brought these players they're going to be they're gonna playing college football. And hopefully they don't get hurt and hopefully they progress in their games that they can't get insurance they can buy insurance. But insurance is also expensive and a lot a lot of people can't. Always afford insurance so that it's a hard position I don't think they obviously get. The limelight it being on television. And certainly being a superstar college football player on campus is probably. Out of a good lifestyle ensure that that a lot of players -- happy. I'd in terms of are they getting back what they give the end. I think there have been a number of votes. You know scholars and others were upset that. They're not getting in return what they're contributing. This of pomp and probably impossible but I'll ask anyway. Has there ever been an attempt or or talk among lawyers to. -- more of a better word unionize all the college football players and say. We're all just so -- really gonna play unless. Oh whatever of the long maybe you -- -- restrictions being changed. And we implement changes just slightly and -- Get there there has been talk of -- and they're in sort of -- you article academic pieces that have looked to the possibility that. One difficulty to that and that of course the players aren't professional. Although they you know in some ways are sort of professional in terms of the -- they're working interest and what they're providing in terms of the market. And it fundamentally they are student athletes. And because of that bit more difficult to create. A system unionization that would allow them to continue to be an -- students but. But it what would turn out to these are professional athletes. At the same time that goes against NCAA rules of the incident -- wouldn't exist or what happened. Radically change the rules to allow that. I -- I think it is the typical view for the players it's only or status they're gonna -- three or four years before. The one that are geared up but he had to open to be an insult to utilize that this is going to be their status current decade. I think it's beat up because of that players make it ecologists say I don't want to be part of a lawsuit where some radical changes are trying to do occur really it's gonna focus on playing paintball and do well my team and and hopefully putting myself in the position where. And IP traffic one day I don't I don't know they wanted to extend their energies. On either a lawsuit or. You know petitioning congress and things like that. Our -- one final question let's go back to the coaches so I'm assuming this but I assume and on searchers are doing similar shows and getting the same responses over and over. A coach. Coaching a game. Gets paid four million base salary a year. Possibility depending on how well does. In the win loss column could make six and a half million and then add to that I can almost guarantee you. 99% of people call here. Compared to the 99 and 1% -- appearing in the media which say that's too much. But there's no way of determining. What to march are not too much would be. No way of determining who isn't that would decide. How much would be okay. And how to implement it right I mean it's it's pretty much a useless argument isn't. Well -- -- -- at the end of the day schools decide how much coaches work particularly given a bidding war with other schools over how much Japan. But there are steps that schools can do that at least. Make it make it appear that academics are more important early should be considered more important you mentioned earlier. Parliament that and let's I'll get I -- something along the lines at 200000. -- interpreted thousand dollars. For academic performance. And be dirty making four million maybe 250 of them. Enormous amount of money but it's still sizable. Schools could say well look what we're really take academic performance seriously. Let's have salary based in to a higher percent on academic performance of the college football players. If some people laughed at that table who cares how well they're doing in school but -- really goes to the point right that if we cared deeply about. They're their status as it happens we would care just as much. Their status as students -- status as athletes so why not make their salary -- contingent upon the GPA of the student -- ration it like that. How many stories so I have -- my second -- on teachers saying they were pressured. To give B student athletes' grades. In order to bring in the money that the school benefits from you so out of that problem when. You still look you know that's. And maybe they're you need some type of auditing service that concern that faculty are being pressured. It's complicated and the complexity. Makes it harder to do anything about it. Professor of very good talk can you think I learned something and I appreciate still I'm very much real good -- -- Or a moment -- could will go to a number experts we have and anything I'm talking about news in -- to receive the -- and promotion remained solid in the meantime what do you think you can -- to secure 170. Coaches paid too much in itself. How much is too much and -- well. Who will tell us how much is too much energy so what rules you're right to say how much is okay come right back.

Do you plan on helping, in any way, the Oklahoma tornado victims?
