Tommy Tucker with the at 817 in case you are just waking up and you have not been outside yet there has been a change in -- way others sunny windy and chilly today. Highs only around fifty seven's gonna feel like the forty's right now it is 47 degrees. And then tonight clear and very -- blows north Italy ground 26. -- a moderate to hard freeze. And south of the lake around 33. With patchy frost that is gonna feel like the twenties on both sides of the -- then tomorrow when I think. Everybody finally gets back to -- it's going to be sunny breezy and chilly with highs around fifty but again it's gonna feel like. The forties -- ready jaguar opinion apple is asking you basically the saints. Now plans Saturday night against the lions but is not as saints have been as a better that they don't have a bye week. No -- arrests would be better yes keeping the momentum going is better 76%. Of you logging on liners -- yeah. When you yeah keep the momentum going. It's also been a lot of polling nowlin on in Ireland is so hang on we talk about the saints in the second but a lot of polling on on. In Iowa. As the Iowa caucus finally is tomorrow the all important. Not Iowa caucus joining us now different from -- issue. Doctor -- legally go professor of political science happy -- a year Kirby you Dylan. Oh great new year and of course it was -- tigers got to be pumped up about them taken on Alabama next Monday.
Oh it's it's him it's an incredible come. The tigers but I think it's it's so good.
The day in Iowa I guess they don't get too much about either one of those they're all het up about the Republican candidates and on the Rick Santorum -- seemingly knocked it on every door in Iowa for about the last what 2345. Months -- he'd been there.
Yes he's he's been there for quite some summer forget the the exact period he spent more time he's gone to every county. He's he's been an an incredible amount of work in terms of whose real retail politics going to -- doors shaking hands meeting people talking to people on its its start pay off. Though it's unclear that that that he can translate beyond Iowa but it's these these remarkable story.
Yet because he's not to be able to do that in every for every primary.
Now know what -- to get the momentum out of this at this particular state which can carry forward that. He really doesn't have a whole lot of money you know a lot of organizations that would it's and it's Tibet on the Iowa Caucuses and that'll payoff beat them.
what do you think the -- Either the traditional Republican establishment or just Republicans in general haven't embraced him more.
You know he'd -- he'd lost his his last minute campaign and in Pennsylvania by eighteen points. And so he he doesn't looks super collectibles. When you look at that now on the flip side of that though he did win in Pennsylvania which has been. But at least. A competitive state for both political parties and often it's fairly blues so he has won over some independents and moderates so. He he does have some appeal. That the committee of the conservative voters and on.
Did he -- other candidates did he do something in the fall out of favor. By eighteen points.
It was it was partly it was partly it's just the timing of of its reelection -- that he believes running against a popular. Democrat. And who -- from a political -- Darren and had great name recognition and great support.
Ice and no one encompasses the of these. You know the the cliches and use flavors of the month when it comes seats different Republican I think it started with Michelle Bachmann and in the the -- List of them -- have been popular for awhile Newt Gingrich the latest. Now it appears as though although Santorum is making a little bit of jump and it might be short lived. And Gingrich is on the fourth I think it is Ron Paul very popular and Iowa but. You know the people he email and I say this he doesn't he wouldn't appear to be what you say that current tally of our Ron Paul.
Well run he's caddies get of fervent supporters but he does and he doesn't rude to be electable -- beyond its core group and its core group is is is. Very intense and he could he could really do something with that in Iowa because intensity matters in this in the caucus process but. He definitely collectible outside of you know it is it is sort of court and -- would it -- He's he's out there and even in terms of the Republican Party girl lot of people who weren't comfortable with them dispositions. He is that it is sort of a small government conservatives -- crew -- in his positions but when you uniform policy and to others they're people who are comfortable with -- Pull back from the rest the world position. --
about Mitt Romney and I thought it was interesting the way you phrased it is that that it was kind of like a love story and that. How geologists -- accurately.
Eventually Republican voters are gonna look around and go oh he's the one we've been looking for has been narrow law. And in Mitt Romney has been just been paying him around just letting letting the flavor of the month go by and a waiting for his students. This is to step up and take the nomination --
The friend in the office while the friend dates everybody else and doesn't find happiness and then. All of a sudden their eyes made me realize that wait a minute does this is the one and then fade to black music comes everybody's happy.
You know -- in that and make everybody happy but he's been doing a couple of things they're -- Smart -- he's been -- in the hunt money. In two if you look at just the finances and -- he's someone who can at least compete with Obama on on the fundraising side. Into he's got this nifty -- things restore our future which is pack a super pac which is just destroy eighteen or tweaking it started gaining momentum and Iowa. Restore future went after him. Officially independent of the Romney campaign but it's run by Romney insiders and it. And former campaign made from its 2008 campaign I'd give me your prediction who wins. I was I was really tough because it's going to be it's kind of a three way -- right now Romney Paul and and Santorum gaining momentum it's a prediction but I think Romney does well enough there Santorum I think. Think will be the story because he's come from nowhere but I don't think he has the but great organization to maintain it so -- to go to New Hampshire. And endemic Romney. Start to pull away from field and minutes and then. You're going to South Carolina which is somewhat up in the year and fourteen which was leading in the polls. Earlier. In those and both those states. But it's not clear that. I haven't seen pulling for instance. The attacks and since he's sort of fallen phone have been in terms of is national numbers and what that means in the state.
Does the winner of South Carolina a emerges the real. Clear cut front runner.
Probably it in and and especially in that Romney Romney had some tough times there to more conservative state -- and so the more conservative candidates are gonna have some appeal. I think it really is is that for a primary which is going to be really important. Because. Ford looks a lot like the rest of the nation and so I think Fortis going to be that this sort of deciding fact.
And what data is that right. He that January 30 Clausen coming up pretty quick yet with a month we could be pretty close Republican nominee. Serbia pleasures always are so pressed for time and happy new year great the happy new year listening -- you got it and tigers. And I don't talk you know line thank -- I will be right tactic -- it tells a money war. Tommy Tucker in for Bob those are no returns tomorrow Wednesday seventy that it could be.
