And who better to share the hour with and Steve -- magic on a one point nine program director. Beloved by so many little love a lot -- that is the exact words that Diane Newman who sort of runs our show. That potential or the women love this -- and maybe bullish on the radio now this is good -- you can -- but I appreciate this and I'll let you know from -- What you're weekends -- like you like to go out to movies and things like that. Yes growing up here in New Orleans which is so used to that. Yeah you know it's always something going on and really -- that you -- take advantage of all the great things going on new ones and especially during the holiday season yes it's even better -- -- -- experience Christmas in New Orleans which is so wonderful -- and they are really doing right this year yes I've been building for many years -- is just come together and how have a lot of new light displays downtown on this one and convention center boulevard. I drive by there all night -- great employees at -- 200 messages and we're just kids at heart. Well what do we actually in our last -- talk into the musicians we were also talking about thank heaven so many of our theaters have come back. Is this is a theater going town. And we have to play center opening this weekend we're gonna start with them. A tuna Christmas put on by the Jefferson performing arts society. At the up -- in west we'd go. T doctoral we go on -- -- is assailant avenue I've actually been there and enjoyed every minute of it and with us on the phone. Is Philip Benson who's the manager. -- -- -- -- Thank you for joining us and we're getting in the mood for Christmas so you have to talk about two and a -- -- is this tiny town in Texas. Yes -- it's -- third smile and accept. Got a population. Anywhere from twenty feet 200. People. But each -- you -- -- -- -- Two wonderful actor won and commitment they'll. -- hard -- it portraying these 22. And saying crazy their parents from an attack. 22 different characters that you play eleven of them. Yeah correct and then my partner Robert via. I'm cute actually teaching them how to Peter right now potential on the north shortly the other. And so we do this very quickly. If you have eleven. Cost -- just. -- and we -- that the premise to this you know yeah and the characters. To carry it on paper that -- that went Erik -- walk off you have to go about their business and then immediately following sometimes that crickets I second. Another character I'm not completely. Stressed that another character. I know we have two wonderful fabulous object people back there were -- then worked into the part that we are on. So they're ripping your clothes off and throwing the clothes back gone. Absolutely -- -- Quite a scene back there was a pick a. -- -- Pat you had to have at some point in a rehearsal sometimes gotten confused just for a moment I think that would be very funny. Oh yeah absolutely and I think it can happen during a performance but we can't complain -- -- -- you know the wrong character would come out army we've got. A week for one character but in the pants and -- for another Eric -- out. At the Olympics and -- to iron out but we had you know the wonderful rookie Graham and gotten up along the way Indian felt that I -- parents in the greater treatment period. -- double technical guidance to be able to bring out. He is the director. Yeah yes we talk about a multi talented person on my gosh. So it is playing this weekend. And -- that -- finally did and -- -- surely you know what's that what you 7177. -- afternoon in the West Bank. And that we're taping this show up to the North Shore Harbour Centre and why they'll. On the fourteenth in particular. We'll we will just get -- all in the Christmas spirit and good luck to you and success giving -- clothes changed very rapidly. Thank you. That's a precious little -- I don't know if you've ever been there but it's just I am not it is adorable and I'm lucky for the West Bank. Also we have on the phone another play that is going to be on death trap. Which actually was on Broadway in 1978 and joining us for that is Richard mayor Richard. Very good and you you're the owner of the shadow box -- Tell us first of all about a theater. What shall -- -- little theater in the matter any other teachers all I'd like one and it would recruit the black box -- So there's -- set permanent base for the audience and the acting. Which means that you could walk in there one day and it's like -- -- -- kind of what we normally eatery and he could walk in the next day in Iraq -- Little -- there -- a little elaborate. You obviously are great theater lover to have. Created this. -- then I would say just about too much time you know and. That but that's good tell us about death trend sort of the suspense but also accommodating. Yet debt trap is down kind of spooked all of the classic rulers. So it catalog twist and -- trouble saying by a great -- eleven and even though it's got these. Great turn you never becoming the entire -- -- wonderful. It's a really strange inquiry next comedy -- We'd like comedy and we like thrills. A little bird is asking didn't Christopher Reeve playing in that movie version of death -- Get Chris Torre and Michael came marbles and it the but -- history career. Not so you have some superstars yourself playing. Yeah yeah we. Edu and we've got really can't speak yet and our director Richard knee has worked -- a bunch of really great chip shot about the past couple years she did and butterfly last year. And he did -- the -- the year before both of those where. -- -- And tell me again -- the shadow boxes. We are at. At the corner they drop in saint Claude avenue at 2400 and quiet so it to Red Cross healing center -- -- rock -- Oh that's a great location it's a great location. And it's this weekend and it doesn't end this weekend or is it also next weekend. We. Are we. OK well good luck to you to Richard and thank you very very much for calling. -- Lots theater gosh he's so great to hear about these little but he beaters that we've been here all I was like where's the -- there absolutely loved it and what's happening along saint Claude is very exciting yes. And there are some other and Dennis Walter and some years ago told me that his wife was in -- play. Office. Saint Claude but it was in literally a garage right and so he had sort of what are we doing here and he says it was great. It's Aaliyah I can't tell Yani -- been to those little stuff. Street side theaters and it is just amazing that the these plays are just so well done and read so many great help to people enough. So many talented people and I love them but they do these things at Christmas time to stay with us because we're going to be talking. Movies next I'm Angela under the W well. With states. It's happy Friday and again this is one wonderful weekend to just go out and enjoy yourself we have. Many more things we talked about a little bit about theater you know -- movie freaks. And probably mr. movie who we adore the most Jude -- On the line going to update us. On all the great movies coming out and and I really am interested about. In light of yesterday's loss of Nelson Mandela were gonna talk about that but first -- I think you bring up a very interesting thing about the sound of music that was on television not moving. Last night I missed it because I was at an event did you see it. I all part of that I can't get all of it Angela. It was amazing you know the one of the most iconic and beloved movies of all time this sound of music Julie Andrews. Everybody loves it and this huge event -- in BC it's a huge risk to do -- lie. Completely lines no net. Kerry under -- American Idol winner great country store everybody loves their taking over the Julie Andrews world. And that's captain band trop we had Stephen Moyer from true blood there. And then a bunch of Broadway stores. I mean Tony award winners left and right all around them. But -- audience. No audience didn't have Montague. Oh it was it was incredible I mean you know one of the whole -- -- theater is the idea of going back and forth. Someone you know having a conclusion having -- having -- having laughter. You know -- leads it's just very successful -- not having a audience but they have editing and they have contracts and they have. North there was nothing there was absolutely no -- We're -- it in the area and the time that you watched were there any mistakes because I think people were saying my gosh talk about risk but. And I think the audience at watching television is probably very forgiving but it's a little bit like going to the Daytona 500 you kind of wait for the -- But -- it was -- you know that and we need to of the Daytona apart under do you wanna see the court three you don't wanna see people on split. Pushing a -- are riding a bicycle. And and that's when I mean it. Is it almost was amateurish in distance has it been to -- there with that's support and and almost being in a vacuum. Stephen -- are Bedard and Trueblood was sole lead and that you're going to -- -- Let's get something there. Carrie Underwood -- great she was do you wonder boy and it it was a concert I think it would have been wonderful and is that -- later on it was. She was a lot more active with the dialogue. But it's for as. It's apparent interest in an issue. You get cute I mean the promotion -- that was phenomenal. And and got everybody interested and for many reasons her the play and the fact that it was going to be -- adjusted all the components so it'll be. C.'s biggest ratings for a non sporting event since 2004 almost continue year. There's huge ratings and so I'm I'm looking forward to what they're gonna do next so it's like to train wreck can that you you're you're -- you're you're excited to see maybe. You know that there may have something else in the lineup coming -- who knows. -- -- Let us talk about this great man Nelson Mandela who we lost yesterday an interesting that there are so many films out. They're they're all under a lot of film to keep -- -- still with a blockbuster. But there are public library to dvds. You can find lots and lots of movies. Public won the most recent that people remember is consistent with more Friedman. -- -- -- -- And yes I thought that I thought he portrayed him as such a gentleman. It did and did you get that great spirit. Of the his spirit you know from the movie I thought it was. It was an interesting story with Matt Damon -- -- off nominated for a doctor in the movie. And it's centered around the soccer events in the World Cup and just pulling people together. So it was it was in Michael's life. There's a movie coming out it's not out yet called Mandela long walk to freedom. And it's story. I -- elbow. A name that doesn't just roll off the tongue but he was in that movie permit he has yes. Great store that. The of the critics raving about this. Actor and his performance. And I think that the movie because it's not gonna come out from Harvey Weinstein company's gonna get a huge huge -- And he does. Give more of the background. Of Nelson Mandela. What he went through and how he fought for freedom and I think that's an important world history that people. A lot of people just don't really know to day a lot of people getting into the news and we had little luck of the stories of them. Mean I saw that man interviewed the the man who was returning in this new movie and he was in essence saying the same thing this isn't this is before -- Mandela died trying and he said this is an opportunity for a generation of people who may not know. The heart they may know this man was imprisoned but everything that went into itself. And hopefully that will do a beautiful job and we have other movies out to. Yeah it's what you know as sportsman of Mandela -- people forget back in the eighties -- club per treatment he'd be. Come more recently Terrance Howard. It was a great story sort opposite Jennifer Hudson. In the movie yards Whitney meant -- So so there -- a lot of movies and I'm sure that they'll be showing them on TV and cable. And hopefully the red box -- will be distribute them in Netflix so that we can and can get a little more history and enjoy what this man as an honor what he has done. What would you suggest outside of that other kind of. Will you know there or it is the holiday season there was a whole bunch that came out during Thanksgiving. Did you have a chance to catch catching fire again. -- hit not -- but do you love it. -- did -- really did it was part two of these trilogy the hunger game trilogy that story -- Jennifer Lawrence. I think it's bigger and better than our sports I really do and you don't have to see the first went to enjoy this one. It's a great movie a lot of teenagers have read the book so it's sort of -- movie little violent for younger kids. But to greatly if you do have a younger kids. I'm sure you're either has seen it once or going to go deep frozen. The new animated movies from Disney. Are these the Penguins. Have -- technical and the I have the pats -- Those who wrote that comes from the -- Christian Anderson's story B no queen. They take the story and rivals sisters one who has this gift of making things cold and no. Of course you get angry. And the younger sister have to save the day and save the world. Great songs they're not really promoting it has been musical but is there is a lot of music in this are -- a lot there's a song. Great great show the reaction from audiences. Over the Thanksgiving holidays skated in a -- very rare to have almost unanimous. Raves from the -- and I think it's gonna make big box or to begin this weekend. That's very good -- I did see the delivery man with Vince Vaughn. And it is it is cute and it is actually more than that there was more to it than I thought the man who. Had donated sperm and has you know 500 kids and you know how we kind of put his arms around that handles it well. But -- you know we during the holidays we do need companies here few rounds there deliveryman being one of them. And I think a lot of people will also be will have a chance -- -- after a few more -- to actually get tickets to see the best men holidays. An all star -- -- that. Pulls apart in the second string -- second after the movie but it's. Hilarious and fun for the first half so it's is that great recommendation not really enjoyed that -- at -- Dude you are. Eight prince among men and I thank you -- very much for all of this and we can't wait to hear from you next Friday. And -- go have a great day Steve you enjoy your week into -- attitude. Take care. It's a real party in this room right now. We're talking about what's happening this weekend and something that every kid who's you know three and up and on talk and way up. Loves Christmas time and what the city is doing. Is we have to applaud. Kurt Michael is here with the downtown development district who was that the executive director of it and I know how excited he is about some things that are happening. Let's talk Christmas downtown. Let's talk okay -- big things happening first only have one little cancellation. You know first of all we via holly movie and the Mississippi that was supposed to take place tonight we're gonna show the purchase shall Christmas. Hum -- gone on for second have to cancel that we think that the rain pattern is just not looking good for us. We want to be -- safe event if we have it and so we just don't think we can put on safely. And so we will -- -- for tonight however next week's movie where we will show elf which is when my personal favorites. 630 on the thirteenth Friday the thirteenth will be going on as planned so. And of course that the parade which I'm sure we'll talk a lot about yes and but Spanish plaza Spanish plus. Let's talk about beautiful everybody's commenting to me about commit reasonable part. Yeah convention center has lit them up they've done an absolutely beautiful job. Beautiful job and they've they've made they've if if you if it's possible they've made. A building as big at the convention center looked almost like a Christmas gift boxes -- that really extraordinary and I loved the trees in the lights that go up and down it just hope that people are. Hope he'll make a day trip and ninth trip and look at it yeah is it just. A terrific job and I just knew if -- -- coming down for your Christmas party it's downtown please go by NC yeah Christmas in the district that really beautiful. So let's talk about tomorrow. Let's our celebrity grand Marshal. Thank you so much Angeles -- and here we -- just thrilled that you're going to be part of this we we can't think of anybody. We've would be a better better celebrity grand Marshall I think the crowd is going to be thrilled to see you. And if we can just get this rain passed us tonight it's going to be a fabulous day out there. It's going to be a fabulous day and it's gonna be Christmas seems like there will be we like the cool crisp weather so there is absolutely no complaints. Bundle up your kids because it's all about kids too but it and I get to ride with mr. -- you do say this is I have lived long enough. Now to say I have arrived I'm going to be riding with mr. things. It starts at least circle and starts in the circle at 1 o'clock. And it will roll down saint Charles avenue all the way to canal street make a loop on canal street and then head back up -- -- circle on -- Pretty simple route recently very nice round and again you want people to beat yourself this is this is. For children of all -- tell us some other things are going to be in it what. It's going to be a traditional New Orleans -- we're gonna have some -- the city's great high school marching bands were going to have of fire trucks antique and other. We're going to have. Floats we will there will be throw his dislike any great -- and prayed. On holidays themed throws. Plush and -- in the whole deal. And so it's going to be it's gonna feel like any other -- except it's gonna it's Christmas -- so it's gonna feel like I'll. And it's did I hear correctly -- people on stilts stilts oh yes Angela -- and marching him or dancing groups. The whole deal is as matter of fact -- this year. I'm happy to say we have 45 units in this pray in this this parade started. I'd I'd say maybe the first year maybe fifteen or eighteen units and so has drawn pretty substantially over that or you can be on. Still central title I will miss being on the field for -- admire those who are up until now because I have to take care mr. think I have responsibilities. Denigrate sidestep and we thank you very good for us are going to miss being ultra supportive. Though Mr. -- lips. Mr. -- but the whole. Origin and having a -- Christmas you know. -- this is only that it is. It goes back in the history of New Orleans norm on had a Christmas parade for years and years. Most the people that I talked to -- as an epic nobody that I I've talked to -- understands why it stopped you know what with a rational if there was rationale. But at some point time it stopped and and you know when we were talking at the DDD. About how to promote all the great things happening downtown the residential boom in the retail boom and and just that general. Positive development downtown over the last many years. Somebody said well we used to do we used to do holiday parade downtown what do we do that again and it and it just is caught on this is now our sixty year. -- like -- that every year it gets bigger. And you know that. That the ultimate. The ultimate measure for -- of how successful this is. Is how many people we see on the streets you know that you don't yell and throw me something mister. Or or ms. ms. hill. Mr. single car mr. ping -- and that's what we really encourage everybody to come out in May be cold tomorrow but that's again it's the season. So fun to look the kid put commitments on. Yeah and you know Angela we've we've -- we've done this parade when it's been 750 we've done when it's been forty. And we found that people show up either way I like you say I think that the cooler weather puts people in the -- it does. Well I truly am honored and I am looking forward to this tomorrow in the cold the better. Think that's why on that mr. -- arms around me. But I'm looking forward to it I loved the season I love Christmas. And it is just a treat to be part of this sport thank you Angela and so I will see you tomorrow at 1 o'clock and or not before. OK okay thank you very much Kurt Michael with the downtown development district let me tell you some thing. Steve -- nice man that he is is is substituting for Ian who is our regular on Friday's. I'm telling I'm worried about -- job because C a a in a dancing in here and obviously enjoying everybody music. Well let me especially Christmas music mean that result by Christmas music right now obviously and you know so it's it's it's special time of year special time I'd love -- and that's why I love coming -- -- talking about all these great holiday events included -- wants Kirk talked about. Yes and you. The -- -- music -- I do months. I live music it's been part of my life for -- time always wanted to do this so and I can't do at a very young age and in my hometown so I'm the luckiest guy in the world. Well we're lucky today to have you thank you very few. We do have some other things happening yes and I do when -- mentioned since Kurt was just talking about the downtown area if you are coming in for the troops jingle prayed there are other things going on downtown they're a lot of local hotels that have their. Teddy bear -- this week yes. -- over at the Roosevelt that's from ten to a one tomorrow -- think it also heavily when were clock Saturday and Sunday. And the Teddy bear tees or something that's been happening -- wants for such a long time and they also have won over in Covington only do with the on the color of their English -- Brohm and the nutcracker tee and that's all on the North Shore at 11 AM on on Sunday but they also helped. Of things going on downtown at the hotel model in all there's the saint Nicholas -- in the French market this weekend's appeared calm down please take time to enjoy everything happens and. The other thing they have is the cathedral every day. Is having special concerts every day yet every day and it has starting about 6 o'clock gone and it's absolutely for. And we like free and it is the time it is the time. Are a little bit. Away from this is still Christmas but not from our area but from the beautiful -- saint Charles parish. They have there it's the fifth annual bark at the bridge park. And they're gonna have Santo photo she can have your pet bring your -- take photos and -- fifth time they've done it. Bark a bridge park festival it is this Saturday from eleven to three at the West Bank bridge park in little. These are delightful people in saint Charles parish. Also on the animal part. The humane society of Louisiana has launched a major community. Pet food drive and they've sort of partnered with first bank and trust so if you want to make any donations of pet food cat dog that -- Their heart is in the right place should just drop the food by and they're also raising money funds for any on trends pop. Station they lost their van there's got to get a new one they do a lot of work. So -- trying to raise money for that. We can help them do that this weekend. And you were talking about concerts at the cathedral at the or some other big concerts this weekend Tom John Mayer is -- -- Saturday night he was in town for Jazz Fest. I'm but he is coming back with an American Idol winner. John Mayer and Phillip Phillips perform tomorrow night's. At the New Orleans Arena tickets are still available I believe that shows at 8 o'clock tomorrow -- surprise tickets are still available they are but I think they're going to be going past but usually there is still pretty good walk. That is great and another American Idol winners in town on Celtics Taylor Hicks us Harris. At -- very very good -- that's tonight and morning and think at 8 o'clock to it's like twenty boxed OCT Alex I'm not. More and I bet he'll sing Christmas oh yeah he'll be doing -- give Christmas the open has blues he kind of rock and roll. What a pleasure. Now look. If you're over on the West Bank tomorrow very important 5 o'clock Algiers bonfire and concert. Thought they gonna have their beautiful -- Christmas thing with the Los angelenos museum complex. And this is going to start at 430. Not to be missed all kinds of things happening but most importantly. Take your path and have its picture taken because there's a fund raiser for the New Orleans bulldogs risky. And again this is Saturday one to four at 3536 too loose which is Ryan combine and John. We had a lot done. -- -- We're talking about concerts before -- mentioning your victory bell swinging Christmas at our beautiful museum grounds -- checked their website because it's so popular that always sells out the -- we have a dinner shows with the concert too with a victory bill swing Christmas shows are spectacular. And our museum the LP also has some Christmas concerts every weekend. Com and the Aaron -- Christmas concert is coming up in Baton Rouge next weekend it'll burst casino what a wonderful man so happy for him now he's remarried. And he had such a wonderful. Marriage for so long and lost his wife and I'm just happy for him he's a good good human beings. One more thing Angela -- mention that the guessing Andrew's episcopal school is having that's a race -- tomorrow morning monumental and part four to benefit the army pfc Kevin Trimble who lost both legs -- arm in Afghanistan and. Wonderful celebration they have at the -- cultural center it's the fourteenth annual holiday on the boulevard. All kinds of great music and -- great crafts and things like that and a place to -- -- to show this week on central city and they are really pulling it again had difficulties that are really trying it. Also you know we have this fabulous program where the city is trying to do about a 100000 trees and so this weekend it's going to be this Saturday eight to eleven. Free trees for council district. If you want to participate you get a couple of free trees we need to reach free ourselves yes. And that is one thing don't get the festival results are going on the children's leasing this week and I did not know that I think you are mr. knowledge panhandle brunch to -- the more you wanna go early it's it's actually spectacular. I'll tell you what's great is I hope everyone takes the time goes to celebration you know -- When I say they keep on doing themselves they keep on doing themselves we are proud to be other official sponsor -- one point celebration jokes muscle problem but something else I think is very important. Is what you're doing with mr. -- Mr. bingo we have a special page for mr. Pringle were trying to keep his spirit alive for the new generation and if you want to show your kids or grandkids their story it's on our website at magic's 119 dot com there's a link to mr. bingo merchandise and it's just something you need to do to keep.
