We welcome a Saints coach Sean Payton and on Mondays coach straighten -- breaks down what's his team gets a look at the game tape record straight thank you for the time and one of the things you started off yesterday. And recapping the game in Carolina he's difficult losses that you thought to teach him how great passing great energy. But just came up a little short in the -- after look at it the game tape coach Peyton what what you felt a break it down the field with a team. Well I I think there's just there's like I mentioned yesterday I thought the preparation during the week. Wood would really good. And it shows Sunday. We played with a lot of emotion that thought. Obviously. It was -- -- flawed because it's a game I thought the field position. It was critical for us kind of went back and forth. There and you know we we settled for field goals early in our first and then in the second half the kind of things -- with the weather a little bit. And then -- you know the greens stop but I. I thought we put ourselves in great position. You know one more first down in relief pitchers. The -- that they and we weren't able to do that. And then one more stop he sensibly in there and we weren't able to get that done but. I was incurred with a lot of things. That I saw on -- a ball in the kicking game we do a lot of things well. Obviously our third down defense was outstanding. Both pass rush on the road was outstanding so. That. That was something that you see on tape up a lot of guys individually did some things really well. You know listen we're gonna. We're gonna build on that we come home -- for the next game is going to be important. Now you know -- they look at it what occurred in especially. When we were controlling the tempo of the beginning of the team. And that to me it was so frustrating was a couple of plays to me affected. The outcome of the game you know you have a wanna blame the officials. Knowledge we got a thirty goal on the seven yard line. And Luke Heatley their outstanding linebacker who is outstanding at point four tackles. But to me what you gotta call that he's holding Jimmy Graham around the waist. And that we had an opportunity that have to kick a field goal. And make it 60 would have been ten to zero. And then also that first drive to start the third quarter and now we're down seven to six. But when you look at that drive in. And and where it occurred. To be wet the 32 yard line all the time now -- rolling a nice run buying them and they call a personal following street. That would be that was awful. I mean listen I can't I can't I thought he'd be copy. Yeah and it doesn't show up on the Arctic. But. You know that that's a great example haven't see something. Before you call. It my explanation was that you really didn't get a good. Look he caught the tail end of that -- basically it is you had via. There -- from the soccer flop. Yet no that's exactly what I thought -- like India April. Soccer flop. And that's exactly what occurred and a considering they just killed drive. I mean enough when you're going to get the team has -- Carolina. You know you can't afford to have that go get cute and now coach look good on that same drive and -- almost done now -- had been about. I don't know the way he -- that -- -- minute that he wanted to be two yard field goal. We make a few goal always McNown. What was the mindset. And in and explain it to the fans that they wanted to know. -- -- -- -- -- -- And then now with look like in the comment. Yeah we get the receiver Robert -- community -- the ball out of bounds with like almost at -- -- -- at its -- -- -- -- -- -- outlook the -- -- hear the thing we kind of had this for a week or two -- ball a little bit more with Jimmy Graham be in the primary. Obviously. -- -- -- on the field as the holder you you have some. Flexibility. With the play but. We -- at that point where. You you looked at the -- we were kind of Google position -- as we discussed part of the game thirty go one direction probably 37 the other which came. The old kind of swirled more right to left in the end when you look at the yards you're gonna yet. If you're -- trying to pin him inside the ten. I felt like you're and a lot reward for a little rest you know the from a field position standpoint our defense was playing well. And it was there wasn't any time around that but when I looked that and I didn't like kicking a field goal there with the with the conditions and I felt like yeah Newton but a good opportunity. To run that play and it's just a little. Kind of a quarter rule if you will and Jimmy -- a corner route. They did pretty good job -- that the problem inside perfection. You know we ended up. Kind of what a little error and it ended up just end up with a holding call also what would have been frustrating -- -- completed and have a book back but. You know just almost exact kind of go into that game on the you don't have a party won the first game in order to make sure our players knew we were going and they're confident. Yeah we definitely knew we run onside kick but look we -- get them but the fact Google something that. Probably don't come up unless were right at that. That that kind of -- in the field where we go look at that from field goals important. Got a pretty good about where we were with without court because. Now you know court straighten out the fans next to me that's a lot my coach speak about this than when you look at how the game progresses in. And how the -- -- lines playing you know whether you run block him Pat's block him. Was there any consideration considering at times tall arms that. Was struggling. To maybe at halftime or sometime in the -- to switch the Charles Brown now you know they call on the show and say. Well if you look at Charles brown and he had one probably -- better -- this think uniform against hardy opportunity hardy and no sacks and now only one tackle in the superdome. And then you look at what he was able to do. You know in this past game where he had four tackles and three sacks was there any consideration. And that may be you know trying to. Maybe give Charles -- the opportunity in this game. Laviolette shouldn't be in in Charlton. Played well force this year times then -- and you know we made the change like this. A lot of thought was given. It in after having seen the tape and go through it today offensively and can go through. The the players greats. Start for the fans understand what we're doing protection watch sometimes it it's impossible. And the other two sacks given up. By -- but. He played with good intensity. There. There wasn't a point in that game we were considering that you know. I liked the effort there in the energy like -- finishing in the running game we do a lot of things that we were fired up about. You'll there was couple most actually there were cover sex where. You know if we had the time initially and we weren't able to throw the ball player get away from the cover route but. Actually when you're on the road it's a little bit different than playing at home -- played RD -- well here so. You know we're fortunate. Obviously some experience there with the reps that Charlton got all year and we're excited about. You're young left tackle prospect to -- now in. It really knew I had to look at his published our award. That's Saints coach Sean Payton allow Bobby about the ability of more on the Saints game against the Panthers at what point toward a huge on Sunday it's been moved to an evening game. As a Saints take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday right here on a New Orleans Saints radio network. And welcome back to the Saints coaches show on the New Orleans Saints radio network Saints thought Carolina seventeen to thirteen visiting with Saints coach Sean Payton. Coach paid though Bobby and I talk about this opinion on all the years that you've been you had so many great offenses and you look at these defeats this year and -- -- it's a team sport and obviously we had a chance to close out against knowing the kind of tennis clothes are. Against Carolina would come up short but. A since Carolina went three for three on third down they are 321. On third down conversions against the Saints -- -- finale yesterday. Will hold on to 222 yards just today. 73 announces about it point now and I just think about you know regardless so of what people say about -- team owner wrote. When you can play defense like they consistently -- -- gonna have a chance to win a ballgame -- that matter where you go row. Well I mean there's a couple of key statistic we won the rushing battle. Which which is hard to do does that mean that they're they're team that we think Russian -- well -- The third down battle that third down battle I'm possession. Those those were some some -- numbers in and you know person at that position here in the fourth quarter. Obviously. You know we eat you can kind of go back and -- these try to throw the ball that last drive and I think it's I think with the way we played defensively. We felt like -- used their timeouts. There's there's. Much time off the clock as we could take. We played very good with the field position or scenes on special teams covered well campaign here in. In the same thing with the kick off you know we knew that half we gave the kickoff will be cut backs and the other grapple in the certain direction might be return. So. You know I thought we we handle that part of it well we -- of the field position battle well one point it felt like man we were backed up. The whole third quarter. And then we were able to come out of aren't with a pass to Jimmy Graham in the first happened the other way around we had the field position advantage. It's -- like Carolina was playing on their side of the fifty most of the first so. -- you never know how these games unfold and you gotta pay attention to what's happening in front of year and you know I think that. Look at that's that's what made it most frustrating because I know players felt like they they were right there there and there are. You know that that -- welcome back to help us that there are some things you'll learn when you're when you're plates -- like that. You know this week or folks is going to be -- at the -- won't get rid of that lost. I -- the overall mood today is that this team would really pure and that was incurred. Now -- -- I got action about could you kind of explain about the play selection to get a first down. I kind of very rare very similar what happened against the Patriots. As far as the clock management trying to make them use their timeouts and -- -- complete pass and running the ball considering. You know how well well we ran the ball but look what all's said and done. We had a 126 yards rushing. Thirtieth him it's four point two yards and thought this is one marking rooms best efforts and the Saints uniform. As there may be a case in point. That may be at times too you reflect on what you call running plays that maybe you would it did it a little earlier. Maybe at times considering how well. We ran against Carolina. Because they've been very stout against the run and we had nowhere near his success in the superdome. Rooting against them like we did this time around. Well yeah after after any game you know you always got to go back through sequence place sequences. You look at things in. You know you end up with a win you're not even having this discussion right but that's just that's just the nature of the game. You know I've thought -- thought up front offensively. Our guys that are pretty good job the inside players that thought. They're very good job that is just out front I thought we got that song equally mean he's he's. Real good lateral. Guy and at times we were doing your position he came underneath some blocks but. You go to -- ball like that on the road against a team like that was encouraging at all -- Definitely ran he would. The one big run and got thought he played with a lot of emotion I was pleased to see that no got to keep walker out secured the ball the end those runs. But I I thought. You know I thought that was that was so pardon because you know when you're able to do that then you're able play defense we've played. You know there there's going to be games that that are going to be in the twenties and thirties there and we got to make sure we find a way to the win those games in. And again that. I felt overall in the locker room disappointment frustration but. How do Kirch. Now -- rained out. -- -- it strategy behind this so what day it was just. I missed kick we always expect. The highest that we kind of take for granted how outstanding Thomas -- native. Applauding the football if you look at me and okay now. You know it's a man and into second lap. I'm more thick -- -- but 37 yard punt. The question and I have enough fans that backs me was that may be. I'm not wanting to put the ball the -- Q are you considering -- it's easy the fourth of fifth. In the NFL averaging about twelve and a half yards a return. And make sure he doesn't have a big return count like Devin Hester like him though and make it a fair catch the ball with all the sun. I thought that -- or punt. Considering now they would starting their drive with a 35 yard line. -- I thought -- that definitely has the ability. The punt the ball further and maybe not get that big return was it just admits it. Or was he instructed to make sure or you -- exit as a return. Well when we go here's a returner like Guillen was one of the things that. That Thomas does such a good job with these -- directional punting. In other words he's looking for the distance. But also at an angle you to -- sideline or maybe sometimes the far sideline he's exceptional -- that than in probably. One of the reasons the knees he's load up to reporters in the NFL. So in that situation there's two things go wrong on number one get -- -- could you're gonna get a rush look at times in making sure that you're you're not. He had that blocked the second thing is. -- -- -- -- To put rhetoric -- There are times when you do that was so that they did that work out just you walk so he's got a leg. Which you all wanted the booming B chick where it's up to you your coverage all of sudden return comes back at your coverage group. But I'm sure you would like to hit that ball better. It's pretty difficult when you talked about an angle towards the sideline and still get in. 4550. Yards on punt and it really fit in there -- corner to corner or. -- -- number times with similar it just goes out of bounds there's no return and then there's a net of fifty could be some dark so. We were able to get that done but I'm sure the first thing that I -- -- upon all. We're terrible point toward the Tampa Bay inactive Sunday in the dome was -- all the lines for the black goal physical to show all the New Orleans Saints radio that. And welcome back to the Saints coaches show Saints -- Carolina seventeen to thirteen and exits at bay Buccaneers of the regular season finale for the Saints before the post season. The -- time now for you Ian Moss and recycling coaches questions Ian Moss and recycling to -- Resource has coached this all comes from a GM in him he says coach. -- -- are yeah hundred what type of season was the rookie had. Well into an outstanding season he had an outstanding season you know it happens. Just or replace. He double that is because his presence physically. In the running game it was a force. You know the wanting. You see within. Consistently old -- old is he makes contact -- well on week you're. About 220 pounds. And -- intensity although -- deeper into the position. Oh fantastic so he's got a bright future with the speed that surgery tomorrow. On. Basically its regular network by -- -- -- glad that I'm going to be in the Kasten. I think they're they're talking about three and a half months agree that it's so we'll look like they're set a year ago. Remember that you have coaching questions email you sent recycling coaches question -- NH -- entry unit -- dot com Ian Moss and recycling. To create resource Bobby. Court thing. You know what and I think if fans appreciate -- that means giving The -- it's a flat out. It would be done -- or not missing tackles in the passing game. And just overall unbelievable safety. I mean even that nickel corner. Now what can't get frustrated and maybe think that the play -- it felt while. And I am I picking on him but Malcolm Jenkins. We -- coming on that blitz all that and it. C'mon you cannot let that even at the back does push out the way I know we -- go great you Polamalu. Who applied in there you've got it this rough. That throwback can -- in an aunt and and I agree with that when the fans felt that I think I know exactly what you're talking about. Because you have to become a -- he's there -- to build a moment if that's so but just like getting can you not obviously I can name it. But that they can't you gotta disrupt that the role and I think after frustrates fans because Malcolm Jenkins I think has done an outstanding thing. You look on the proper line. -- -- then got a martyr role both that that late. What occurred at Seattle. Then missed tackles but the Rams and and then kind of almost reverting back that maybe when -- -- done in the past and just expect anymore from a pattern. Like Malcolm's -- it. Yeah I would that I disagree. And I've seen the play understandably it's we got one more than they can block in the act initially -- Stepan. Inside and at the last minute comes outside. Part of the thing -- teach let's say -- is. You stay on your feet all right and so obviously you wanna run through to block we're gonna have three guys if we time and a Jewish right. He's been man -- tell -- what he's an outstanding season and he's one of the leaders of our defense. His passion and how he plays. I'll take every week. Surely would have liked to got home they're all that pressure in the quarterback made a good play we had a chance to. Obviously go back to the first and ten the big play which was that the deep dig route. You know let that's what starts the drive but. He played very well yesterday have a hard time you know. -- with the way they played defense we've looked close team in question someone's passion that I get a bit. I don't you probably -- people maybe try and work too much iron in general. Coach Payton now big on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have since we've last seen him date they've made a lot of changes and mainly quarterback and I mean you feel bad that the date they have a quarterback of the future now in the Tampa -- played a lot better since the last time we saint. Well that they're different team now. You're right it's Freeman was the starter for we saw him earlier in the year we too. A lot of change put bitching and no number one offensively. They've got a little bit different identity you know you'd see that on film they they've struggled yesterday like a lot of teams do against at Saint Louis defense but they've been. They've been pretty good in the running game they want to Seattle and him and had a chance to win that game. And then be sensibly. Are more experience unit. Their numbers are a little bit better. And when you look at that side of the ball that got some good supporters in the secondary the front is extremely active. -- the linebackers run well also again. Another tough challenge defensively. And offensively -- deal with the team which but like I said before one of the football and then they do real good job personable on the field. Saints coach chomping coach -- thank you so much good luck this week against Tampa Bay. Our guys here.
